National Trends and Service

The vision of the National Trends and Services facet is to eliminate disparities by reducing barriers to services through advocacy, education, and service. Our mission is to effectively empower the communities in which we work. Our goals include increasing the number of sustainable and measurable programs; increasing collaborative partnerships; and extending our existing initiatives to include communities identified as having the greatest need.

In partnership with local domestic and family violence shelters and programs, the National Trends and Services Facet (NTS) is working to support women and children survivors to rebuild their lives, promote self-love, self-respect and empowerment and job education and training. Select recent accomplishments include conducting focus groups with women residents in a local shelter to best determine ways to build on the work our chapter has begun with them. As a result of the focus group meeting, NTS launched a series of informational workshops on critical issues of concern, including: 1) Order of Protection in Criminal and Family Courts; 2) the process of filing a Domestic Incidence Report; and 3) the duties of law enforcement officers who work in the Domestic Violence Unit, Child Custody, Child Support and Paternity Proceedings. Donations were made by chapter members and chapter partners to assist with the purchase of essential health, hygiene and cosmetic items for shelter residents and to provide additional support services.

In building on these accomplishments, NTS is working to expand its focus on domestic and family violence through a three pronged-approach that includes: (1) Education - To increase awareness and understanding of the issues, consequences and interventions through broader engagement of chapter members and the community; (2) Empowerment - To engage and support women and girls who are victims of domestic violence to meet the challenges of re-building their lives; and (3) Advocacy - To educate policy makers about the importance of promoting and supporting legislation that impacts the issue of violence against women and girls at the federal, state and local levels.
